Greenland Wax

In the early 1960’s after experimenting with ski- and bees wax on tent fabrics and trying different mixes, Åke Nordin arrived at a unique combination of paraffin and bees wax for Fjällräven G-1000® textiles. The special waxed fabric was chosen for the tents and clothing tested in the 1966 Greenland Expedition. Since that time this perfect combination of wax has been known as Greenland Wax.

With the application of Greenland Wax, G-1000® garments are more resistant to wind, dirt, and moisture. The wax can be washed out of the clothing when little protection is needed and more wax can be added to the garment in the field when maximum performance is required.

To apply wax:
1. Take the block of wax and rub it into the garment generously.
2. Using an old iron or hairdryer and carefully heat the garment until the wax has been absorbed. In the field a camp stove may be used as the source of heat but be very careful.
