Extremely functional, yet responsible outdoor products
The Arctic Fox, or Alopex Lagopus as it is called in Latin, is an animal that greatly impressed Fjällräven's founder, Åke Nordin, during his hikes in the mountains as a young man. He eventually named his company after his inspiration and each product we make today honors the resourceful predator.
Unfortunately, the arctic fox is in acute danger of extinction. Extreme over-hunting for its fur in the early 1900’s led to a drastic fall in the number of arctic foxes. A dwindling food supply and competition from the red fox are the main reasons why the arctic fox population is under the threat of extinction today.
At Fjällräven (which means "arctic fox" in Swedish), we hope that, in the future, more people will have the opportunity to be inspired by the curious arctic fox in the mountains and see its pups romping outside a den. This is why we support SEFALO in its efforts to save the arctic fox.
The inspiration of the Arctic Fox influences our products and that our business practices ensure employees working in our partner factories are working under safe, fair, legal and humane conditions. We develop environmentally friendly fabrics and co-operate with partners to improve the environment and support biodiversity.
